A New Paradigm and Unifying Model for Reinventing Education

Major Purpose: Develop great human beings to be contributors to society.

Actions: Help each student develop seven major powers by which to contribute: 1. Identity - The power of self-worth that comes from developing one's unique talents and gifts.

2Inquiry - The power of curiosity and efficient investigation.

3Interaction - The powers of love, human relationships, communication and cooperation.

4Initiative - The power of self-discipline and willpower.

5Imagination - The power of creativity in all of its many forms, including innovative problem-solving.

6.  Intuition - The power of the heart to sense truth and develop emotional intelligence.

  1. 7. Integrity - The power of honesty and responsibility.

  2. 8.

The BIG IDEAS

οNurture the development of positive human diversity - help students develop as unique individuals with their own sets of talents, gifts, interests and abilities. Stop trying to standardize and make students alike in knowledge and skills. It's not only impossible to do, but extremely harmful.

οStop teaching reading, writing, math and other disciplines as goals, as ends in and of themselves. Teach them as tools of inquiry, interaction, avenues to talent and gift development, and all seven dimensions of human greatness. (If you want to develop voracious readers, focus on helping students develop an insatiable curiosity.) Basic skills and all knowledge are learned much better as a process of inquiry, through intrinsic motivation than by extrinsic imposition.

“People cannot learn by having information pressed into their brains. Knowledge has to be sucked into the brain, not pushed in. First, one must create a state of mind that craves knowledge, interest and wonder. You can teach only by creating an urge to know.” Victor Weisskopf

οShift from useless standardized testing to authentic accountability and assessment of growth in the seven powers of greatness and contributive behavior.

The Role of Teachers (Including parents): The basic act of teaching is to stimulate inquiry, imagination, respectful interaction and the other powers of  greatness. See, through the eyes of love, the unlimited potential, of each special child.
